The Frozen - Magic of the Northern Lights Disney silver coin collection is already in it's third issue with the Olaf coin having been released just this week. The previous two coins in the series were of course the Anna and Elsa coins that were released in the previous two months.
Frozen is Disney's 53rd animated full length feature film and was originally released in 2013. The movie was a runaway success, breaking records as it went, earning a worldwide gross of over $1.274 billion in ticket sales. Set in the kingdom of Arendelle, Frozen tells the story of the graceful Snow Queen Elsa, and her fearless sister Anna. The two experience an epic adventure in the mountains together with the rugged Kristoff his reindeer Sven and a snowman named Olaf. Together they must overcome the icy conditions, mystical trolls, and a magical curse to save their kingdom from winter's frozen grasp.
Olaf is the very embodiment of youthful exuberance and benevolence, a snowman that possesses a childlike optimism. His selfless nature and fascination with all things summer, including warm hugs, makes him an adorable and extremely affable character, even if he can be a bit too naive for his own good at times.
The reverse of this coin features the snowman in a characteristically happy mood, with his stick arms excitedly outstretched and a huge welcoming smile on his face. The series is called the “Frozen - Magic of the Northern Lights” and the reason for this is due to the colourized aurora effect that is created in the background, that mimics the magical northern lights of the aurora borealis. A decorative border of ice crystals separates the colourized part of the coin from the icy lower third of the coin that has a more traditional proof finish. It is here that the Disney Frozen logo is sculpted onto the coin. The words “1oz 999 Fine Silver © Disney” appear discretely along the lower rim of the coin.
The obverse is the common design of the series that features the Ian Rank-Broadley designed effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth prominently in the centre of the coin. The obverse legend reads : “ELIZABETH II”, “NIUE”, “TWO DOLLARS” and “2016”. The coin is issued by the New Zealand Mint as legal tender under the authority of Niue.
Shipped encapsulated in a rectangular display case that resembles a book and which in printed in blues and purples to match the coin's snowy theme. The inside of the display case contains a brief character and product description along with a numbered certificate of authenticity. The proof coin contains 1oz of pure 999 Fineness silver and measures 40mm(1.5748 inch) in diameter. With a limited mintage of 10 000 coins the Olaf silver collectors coin is being listed for US$80.00 each and can be ordered directly from the New Zealand Mint online or from your trusted world coin dealer.
