Italy Honours Ferrari with Europa Silver

The European Silver Programme, also known as the Europa Star Program or the Eurostar Programme, is in full swing for 2016 with new coins being announced almost every other day now. This past Friday it was Italy who released their contribution to the popular program.

The theme for 2016 is “The Ages of Europe : Modern 20th Century”, so naturally who else would Italy choose to represent the modern age but Enzo Ferrari.

The Europa Star Program is a European initiative that invites European nations to release legal tender collector's coins struck in precious metals. Each year a single theme is announced that participating countries can then design a numismatic coin from and release at their own discretion. The program is completely voluntary. The only requirements are that the coins be based on the announced theme, be struck from precious metals(most release proof silver coins), the coins should be approximately 'crown' sized and bear the Eurostar logo in the design. The program has been running since 2004.
