Finland 2016 President Kyösti Kallio Coin Reverse

This, the fourth coin in the series, pays homage to the fourth President of Finland, Kyösti Kallio (1873– - 1940) who served Finland as her president from 1937 to 1940. He was elected as president by a coalition of centrist and social democratic(Agrarian and Progressive) parties. Kallio tendered his notice of resignation on 27 November 1940, after having suffered a stroke on August 27 of the same year. His intention was to leave the capital and retire to his farm at Nivala after the farewell ceremony on the evening of 19 December 1940. He attended the event but then collapsed and died that same night at the Helsinki Central Railway Station in the arms of his adjutant before a guard of honour while a band played the patriotic Finnish march Porilaisten Marssi.

The obverse is the same design common to the entire Presidents of Finland series. The obverse design is an abstract depiction with rural Finnish fields in the background. The foreground bears the outline of an open book that contains the urbanised environment. The obverse legend is divided into four sections along the outer ring, at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions. This reads : ““FINLAND”, “2016”, “5 EURO” and “SUOMI””. To the right of ““FINLAND”” appears the mintmark of the Mint of Finland and to the left the letter “”L”” which stands for Tero Lounas, who designed the series. The motif is meant to symbolise the president's mandate from the people.

This legal tender €€5 coin is comprised of an cupru-nickel other ring and an aluminium-bronze inner disc. The coin measures 27.5 mm(1.0826 inches) in diameter and weighs in at 9.8grams. A total of 6000 proof coins and 30 000 uncirculated coins have been minted for a combined total mintage of 36000 coins.

This brings the planned Presidents of Finland series to it's halfway point and marks the last coin in the series to be issued in 2016. The remaining four coins are slated for release during 2017 and will commemorate the presidencies of Risto Ryti, C.G.E. Mannerheim, J.K. Paasikivi and U.K. Kekkonen.
