The official 2016 Austrian circulation currency proof coin set is now available.
The theme for the 2016 year set is the Austrian National Bank, or National Bank of Austria, which this year celebrates it's 200th anniversary. The same theme is also featured on the nations commemorative 2 Euro coin, included in the set.
The set is, as always, issued in a high quality display box, featuring all 8 coins prominently. An informative information sheet included therein.The National Bank of Austria was founded on 1 June 1816, during the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I. The National Bank of Austria has, in it's storied past, overseen the transition from the Gulden to the Crown, from the Schilling to the Reichsmark, back to the Schilling and then from the Schilling to the Euro.
An expected mintage of 10 000 sets will be struck. The set includes all of Austria's circulation currency in sterling proof coins, these include :
2 Euro
The Bi-Metallic coin featuring the facade of the headquarters of the National Bank of Austria, and celebrates the bank’s bicentenary.
1 Euro
The second Bi-Metallic coin in the set is dedicated to Austria’s most famous composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
50 Cent
Depicts the Secession exhibition hall which stands as a masterpiece of the Viennese modernist movement, even today more than a century after it was built.
20 Cent
The design of this coin illustrates a masterpiece of Baroque architecture, the Belvedere was once the palace of Prince Eugene of Savoy.
10 Cent
Construction began on Vienna’s Gothic St Stephen's cathedral over 800 years ago. Its roof and tower, which feature on the 10 cent coin, still dominate the Vienna skyline today.
5 Cent
The three smallest coins in the collection are all decorated with alpine flowers. The 5 cent piece with primula auricula, the mountain cowslip.
2 Cent
Made world famous by the song from the musical The Sound of Music, the edelweiss adorns the 2 cent coin.
1 Cent
The smallest coin in circulation rounds of the 2016 coin set’s trio of alpine flower with a gentian.
