These words changed the landscape of Science Fiction nearly half a century ago, and continues to inspire legions of fans across the world. 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the first broadcast of Star Trek: The Original Series. To celebrate this event The Royal Canadian Mint, under license by CBS Consumer Products, is launching an impressive collection of eleven coins all dedicated to the iconic series.
At an event hosted by the Canada Aviation and Space Museum William Shatner himself unveiled a silver $10 coin bearing the image of Captain James T. Kirk commander of U.S.S. Enterprise, and the character that he made famous.
Sandra Hanington, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint, had the following to say about the series :
“For 50 years, Star Trek captured the imagination of countless fans by entertaining us while opening our eyes to the possibilities of science and the wonders of our vast universe. The Mint is proud to celebrate a cultural phenomenon that has carved a space in the hearts and minds of Canadians and fellow Star Trek fans all over Planet Earth.”
Canada 2016 Star Trek Silver $10 Coin Set - The Characters and the Technology
The first set of coins will be four 1/2oz silver coins entitled STAR TREK™: THE CHARACTERS AND THE TECHNOLOGY. This series of four coins celebrates some of the most iconic Star Trek characters, paired with some of the technology made famous by the show. This set will feature:
- James T Kirk and USS Enterprise coin.
- Scotty and Communicator
- Communications Officer Uhura and Tricorder
- Mr. Spock and Phaser

Canada 2016 Star Trek Classic Scenes Silver $20 Coin - 3 Coin Set
The second set is entitled “STAR TREK™: CLASSIC SCENES” and consists of three 1oz silver coins. The set captures classic scenes from the most popular episodes of the original series. These will be :

- The Trouble with Tribbles

Canada 2016 Star Trek 1oz Silver Enterprise $20 Coin
The four remaining coins will all be standalone issues. The first of these is a 1oz silver $20 coin dedicated to the USS Enterprise.
Canada 2016 Star Trek 1/4oz Silver Enterprise $20 Coin
The second is a smaller 1/4oz silver coin forming part of the Canadian Mint's $20 for $20 program, where you can get a $20 pure silver coin for, yes you guessed it, $20.00. This coin also features the Enterprise.
Canada 2016 Star Trek 50th Anniversary Coin and Stamp Set
An interesting edition to this release is a colourized 25c coin combined in a set with three Star Trek themed Canada Post stamps in a special printed folder cover.
Canada 2016 Star Trek Gold $200 Delta Coin Reverse
Lastly but certainly by no means least will be a unique gold $200 coin. This collectors coin will evoke one of the most cherished and recognized emblems of Star Trek™ : the Delta Shield insignia. The STAR TREK™: DELTA COIN will be the world's first ever delta shaped coin.
