The Lithuanian Mint has released their 2016 circulating commemorative 2 Euro coin.
The coin's obverse design is highly reminiscent of their 10 Litas Gold coin released in 2014 from the Lithuanian Science series. It bears the image of an amber disc that was discovered by archaeologists and is thought to be from the Neolithic period. This image has become synonymous with Baltic culture.
The reverse bears the standard design of all circulating 2 Euro coins.
In addition to the regular business strikes 10 000 coins will be struck in brilliant uncirculated and made available to collectors in special packaging. No official confirmation on proof issues could be obtained.
