The 2017 Frederic Douglass Historic Site Quarter Dollar coin is the second coin to be released as a part of the program in 2017, following on the Effigy Mounds National Site coin, and the 37th coin overall in the series, which is set to run until 2021.

The series is meant to depict the breathtaking beauty of America’s natural landscapes. Each coin depicts either a national park or protected historic site. This coin depicts the Frederick Douglass National Historic site that served as the family home of Frederick Douglass for the last 17 years of his life.

Frederick Douglass

Frederick Douglass spent his life fighting for justice and equality. Born into slavery in 1818, he escaped as a young man sought to educate himself and from there went on to become one of the leading voice in the abolitionist movement. People everywhere still find inspiration today in his tireless struggle, brilliant words, and inclusive vision of humanity.

The obverse in turn shares the common series design that appears on all America the Beautiful quarter dollar coins. This is naturally the updated 1932 effigy of George Washington as designed by John Flanagan. The inscriptions on the obverse of the coin reads : “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “QUARTER DOLLAR”, “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST”.

The coins are now available to order from the mint in 100 coin bags. The bags are available with either “P”, “D” or “S” mintmarks. Coins in the rolls and bags are struck on the main production floors at the Philadelphia Mint, Denver Mint, and San Francisco Mint facilities. Unlike the "P" and "D" mintmarked quarters, those with the "S" mintmark will not be released into circulation. The mint is selling these canvas bags, each containing 100 coins, for $34.95 per bag.

Then the coins are also available in 40 coin rolls, again for each of the three mintmarks. The US Mint is allowing collectors to order the “S” mintmark coins in a single 40 coin roll for $18.95 per roll.

The “P” and “D” coins however are only available in two and three roll sets(not accounting for the 100 coin bags, naturally). The two roll set has one 40 coin roll containing coins from the Philadelphia mint and another 40 coin roll with coins from the Denver minting facility. This two roll set is priced at $32.95 per set.

The three roll set in turn adds a 40 coin roll from the San Francisco mint with the “S” mintmark to the mix. The three roll set is being sold for $46.95 per set.

The special numismatic wrapping for the coin rolls displays the name "Frederick Douglass National Historic Site", the abbreviation "DC" for the District of Columbia, "$10" which is the face value of its contents and "P", "D" or "S" for the mint of origin. The canvas bags have a tag with "Frederick Douglass National Historic Site", "DC" and "P", "D" or "S".

The Frederick Douglass three coin set is expected later on in April, 2017, with the 5oz coin expected for released by may, 2017.
