The United States Mint is now accepting orders for their 2017 Effigy Mounds National Monument quarter dollar three coin sets.
The set forms a part of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program and features all three 2017 Effigy Mounds quarter Dollar coins. One Uncirculated coin “D” coin from the Denver mint, another uncirculated coin this time bearing the “P” mintmark from the Philadelphia mint. As well as a single proof quality coin from the San Francisco mint, depicting a “S” mintmark.
The Effigy Mounds Quarter dollar coin in the 36th overall coin in the America the beautiful coin program, and the first coin in the series to be released for 2017. The America the Beautiful Quarter Dollars are meant to capture the breathtaking beauty of America's natural landscapes as well as the rich history celebrated by her national sites. The series was initially issued in 2010, following on the success of the Statehood series, and is set to conclude in 2021.
The reverse of the coin depicts an aerial view of the Marching Bears Group, as found in the Effigy Mounds National Monument. The site preserves over two hundred ancient native American earthworks or mounds. These are believed to have been constructed between one and two thousand years ago. Located in the Mississippi River Valley the site also hosts numerous indigenous plant and animal species. The reverse legend reads : "EFFIGY MOUNDS", "IOWA", "2017" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM".
Their obverse design features the restored 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan. “UNITE STATES OF AMERICA”, “QUARTER DOLLAR”, “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are inscribed as the obverse legend, along with the mintmark to the lower right.
The sets are available to order directly from the US Mint's website at a price of $9.95 each. No order or production limit have been imposed on these sets. The coins are contained in a sealed, rigid plastic display card printed with an image national site.
The silver 5oz coin for this design is expected by mid March, with the shotgun rolls, bags regular and silver proof sets having already been released earlier in the year. WNN will be sure to keep you updated with the latest news as it unfolds.
