Guyana Issues New $50 Banknote


The bank of Guyana is celebrating that nations 50th year of independence by releasing a new 50 Dollar banknote, as well as two commemorative coins.

This is also the first time that Guyana has had a $50 denomination in circulation. The banknote is predominantly brown with shades of tan, red, and green. The face design prominently displays the 50th anniversary logo on the right, next to map of Guyana. The Bank of Guyana's logo at the center and a depiction of a united people of Guyana at the left.

The reverse depicts a flock of doves, representing peace, on the right. The flag of Guyana superimposed by the outline of the national borders of that country. On the left is an image of a Giant Water Lily(Victoria Amazonica), the national flower of Guyana.

Alongside the release of of the $50 banknote the Bank of Guyana also unveiled the design of two commemorative coins. A $5000 gold clad silver coin as well as a gold clad $2000 coin. Both coins will bear the 50th Anniversary logo at it's reverse and the national coat of arms of Guyana on the obverse.
