The United States Mint has now released the special 2018 American Liberty One–Tenth Ounce Gold Proof Coin.

Featuring the same modern interpretation of Liberty, that caused quite a stir at the beginning of 2017, as was used on the the 2017 American Liberty 225th Anniversary Gold Coin, and again for the 2017 American Liberty Silver medals as well.

2018 American Liberty One–Tenth Ounce Gold Proof Coin Reverse

The coin is struck to a high quality proof finish at the West Point Mint, and is produced from pure 9999Fineness gold. It weighs in at exactly 1/10 oz and measures 16.5 mm(0.650 inches) in diameter.

The Obverse of the coin features a profile image of Liberty wearing a crown of stars with the inscriptions of : “LIBERTY”, “2018” and “IN GOD WE TRUST”. The reverse in turn depicts a bold and powerful eagle in flight, with its eyes toward opportunity and a determination to attain it. The reverse inscriptions read : “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, “1/10 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD” and “10 DOLLARS.” Completed by the “W” mint mark to the lower left on the reverse of the coin.

This will be the smallest American Liberty Gold coin on offer and is meant to meet demand for a more affordable alternative to the 1oz American Liberty gold coin. Fractional numismatic gold is not really something that the US Mint is known for, and it is perhaps a step in the right direction that they are starting to release coins on this size.

2018 American Liberty One–Tenth Ounce Gold Proof Coin in Box

The coin will be shipped in a US Mint branded burgundy, satin-lined clam shell style presentation case, where each coin is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

For those who like to get their coins slabbed, NGC has announced that a special American Flag label will be used by default for any American liberty 1/10th oz proof coin which is submitted to that service for grading.

The coin has a mintage limit of 135 000 coins and no household order limit has been imposed by the mint. The coin is now available to order directly from the US Mint website at a price of $215 per coin.
