The second of two new releases from the Art Mint this month, the Cat Eye coin marks the inaugural coin in a new series of artistic animal themed coins just launched from the innovative mint.
The reverse depicts a curled up cat that fills the entire face of the coin. The animal appears to be sleeping except for one open eye, that is either very endearing or somewhat unsettling depending on how you feel about cats one would suppose. The entire reverse of the coin is dedicated to the design with all of the obligatory details reserved for the obverse, making the design all the more effective. The obverse in contrast is all business with the right facing bust of HRM Queen Elizabeth II at the center. Encircling her is the legend detailing the denomination, country of Issue and date of issue. “ELIZABETH II”, “NIUE”, “FIVE DOLLARS” and “2016”. Also included in smaller lettering is”2oz” and “Ag999” on either side of the date.
Other than the striking cat eye, one of the first thing you’ll notice about the coin is the size. At 50mm the coin is quite large. Struck from 2 ounces of pure .999 Fineness silver, tipping the scales at 62.2gram(exactly 2 troy ounces of pure silver). The fine high relief detail on the coin is enhanced by what the mint is calling a handmade antique finish. The Animals : Cat Eye coin will have a limited mintage of only 500 coins with the serial number of each coin engraved on the edge. The coin is suggested to retail for approximately €320.00 each.
