The popular animated series Yu-Gi-Oh! is currently in its 15th consecutive year of broadcast in nearly every major market around the world including the US, Germany, France, Italy, Canada and Australia. The series and brand continue to grow every year with its animated series, motion picture releases and Guinness World Record™ holding best-selling Trading Card Game with over 25 BILLION cards sold worldwide. To celebrate the immensely popular phenomenon, the New Zealand Mint is releasing a collection of officially licensed Yu-Gi-Oh! coins struck in Fine Silver.
The first coin in the new series of licensed coins depicts the Yami Yugi character. These 1oz fine silver(.999 Fineness) coins will each feature a different character from the popular series on it's reverse. The 40mm silver proof coins will be colourized on the reverse and feature the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The coins are issued as legal tender coins with a face value of $2 under the authority of Niue Island.
The reverse design of the Yami Yugi coin features a colourful illustration of Yami Yugi, holding a deck of cards in his hands, with Egyptian hieroglyphics engraved in the background. The coin comes packaged in a Yu-Gi-Oh! themed, printed display case. The individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity is included within the packaging.
The coin has a limited mintage of 5000 pieces and is being listed by the New Zealand Mint for US$80.00 each at launch on June the 6th 2016.
When Yugi was growing up, his grandfather gave him an ancient Egyptian artifact called the Millennium Puzzle to solve. It is said that whoever solves this puzzle will be granted dark and mysterious powers. After solving the Millennium Puzzle, the age-old powers within flooded out and Yugi became steely-eyed Yami Yugi, an extraordinary and confident duelist who fights the ultimate battle at the Shadow Games.
