First day covers for the 38th coin in the Presidential Dollar Coin Series are available from the US Mint starting today, May 17 2016.
The FDC's mark the initial release of the Gerald Ford Presidential dollar coin. Each set includes two one dollar coins from the Presidential dollar program, featuring the 38th President of the United States – Gerald Ford. One coin displays the obverse design and the other the reverse of the coin.
Both coins are mounted on a display card inside a special printed envelope featuring a portrait of Gerald Ford set against the backdrop of an American flag. On the front of the cover is mounted a red, white and blue Forever® stamp with two postmarks dated May 17 2016, Ann Arbor Station, Ann Arbor, Michigan. This commemorates the first day of issue for the Gerald Ford Presidential dollar coin.
Each coin was taken from the first day of production for the design. The first is mintmarked 'P' from the Philadelphia mint, minted December 1st 2015. The other is mintmarked 'D' from the Denver mint, produced December 16 2015. The coins are regular business strikes reserved especially for the first day covers and as such are uncirculated.
These special first day covers will have a limited release of only 20 000 covers total, and are available online from the US Mint for US$19.95 each.
