Additional Information

Deep Space 9 was a mining and refining station built by the Cardassians during their occupation of Bajor. After the Bajorans assumed control of Deep Space 9, they requested the assistance of the United Federation of Planets to administer joint control of the station, which initially orbits Bajor. It was relocated when Captain Benjamin Sisko discovered the Bajoran wormhole after which the station assumed great commercial, scientific and strategic importance.

Orbiting the liberated planet of Bajor, Deep Space 9 guards the opening of the Bajoran wormhole in the Alpha Quadrant to the far side of the Galaxy. Captain Sisko and his crew must fight off rival alien species that are vying for control over the space station because of its position close to the wormhole, which enables speedy travel to the far reaches of space.
