The United States Mint has now officially released the much anticipated American Liberty 225th Anniversary Silver Four Medal Set.The four medals contained in this special limited set share the same design of the regular silver medal of the same name that was released earlier in the year. This is of course a medallic rendition of the 225th Anniversary American Liberty gold coin which saw it's debut at the beginning of the year, to much fanfare.
Where the four medal set differs from the regular silver medal is the fact that the four medals, each of which contains 1oz of pure .999 Fineness silver, are all treated to a distinctive finish and represent in turn the four working mint branches that the US Mint operate in 2017.The first medal is a regular proof rendition hailing from the San Francisco Mint bearing an “S” mint mark. The second piece displays the “P” mint mark for Philadelphia and is treated with a reverse proof finish. From there we move to the West Point Mint with a special enhanced uncirculated medal that carries the “W” mint mark. And last but by no means least it is the turn of the Denver mint with it's “D” mint mark that was chosen to produce an uncirculated round.
This four piece set is housed in a black presentation folder, with each of the four “coins” encapsulated in it's own slot. Similar to the single silver medal and the gold coin, the four medal set is accompanied by a special booklet detailing the evolution of Liberty on US coins during the Mint's 225 year long history. The obverse of the medals bear a boldly modern interpretation of the image of Liberty, wearing a crown of stars, very similar to that of the Statue of Freedom that stands watch atop the dome of the US Capitol Building. The reverse in turn displays an eagle in mid flight with it's wings spread. These sets are limited to a maximum mintage of 50 000 sets, and the US Mint has decided to impose a household order limit of two sets per order. They can be ordered directly from the US Mint's website, while stocks last, at a launch price of $199.95 per set.
