The US Mint has released its 2017 Annual Proof Coin Set, and are now officially accepting orders for these sets.
This year the set contains 10 coins housed in two US Mint protective lenses, or sealed clear plastic display cases(The US Mint calls these lenses). All of the coins bear the “S” mintmark, indicating their origin from the US Mint facility in San Francisco.

This is the first year in over a decade that the set contains only two lenses and a single dollar coin. Since 2007 when the presidential dollar coin series launched until 2016 when it concluded, there has been at least three lenses. The first protecting the regular coin set(penny to dollar coins), a second with the quarter dollar coins – at first the Statehood Quarters and then the America the Beautiful program. And then a third lens for the presidential dollar coins. The exception was of course 2009 when we saw four lenses to accommodate the Lincoln Bicentennial pennies in a separate holder.
The 2017 set contains all five 2017 America the Beautiful quarter dollar proof coins featuring Effigy Mounds National Monument in Iowa, Frederick Douglass National Historic Site for Washington, DC, the Ozark National Scenic Riverways from Missouri, Ellis Island or Statue of Liberty National Monument in the state of New Jersey and George Rogers Clark National Historical Park for Indiana.

The second lens houses the remaining five coins which include One Native American $1 Coin with a reverse design featuring a profiled likeness of Sequoyah writing "Sequoyah from Cherokee Nation" in syllabary along the border of the design.

All of the coins in the set are finished to the San Francisco Mint's proof coin standard, with frosted relief images set against mirror like fields for a stunning deep cameo effect.
As the set contains fewer coins than previous years, the price has been reduced from last year's $31.95 to $26.95. A reduction of $5 accounting for the fact that the Presidential Dollars coins are no longer included.

Both lenses come packaged in a single printed vanity sleeve produced from carton stock. The front of the carton has an image of the Washington Monument at sunrise. The back of the carton has an image of each America the Beautiful Quarters national parks or sites honoured in 2017, as well as the partial obverse coin images of the remaining coins. As usual a Certificate of Authenticity accompanies each set.
The mint is not placing any production or order limits on the 2017 Proof Set , and the sets are available to order directly from the US Mint website.
