Gold 50 Euro to be last in Fauna in Art Masterpieces Series


Alongside the release of the 20 Euro Gold coin in the Flora in Art series the Italian Mint(Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato) also released the gold 50 Euro Fauna in art Masterpieces coin for 2016.

The release of these two coins will bring to a close the series that has been running since 2011. Each year a 20 Euro gold coin and a 50 Euro gold coin was released celebrating plant and animal life during different periods of artistic expression.

Previous years have featured Ancient Roman era beginning in 2011. Then moving on to medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassicism and Rococo styles. The final year of issue features Contemporary art as the theme.

The design was inspired by images from the frieze by Giulio Aristide Sartorio in the Chamber of Deputies at Montecitorio. The obverse features the iconic image of young Italy triumphant with”REPUBLICA ITALIANA” inscribed to her right.

The Reverse in anchored by the image of the Italian knight on horseback waving the Italian flag. The legend reads “FAUNA NELL'ARTE” “50 EURO” and “2016”.

The proof quality €50 Gold coin measures 28mm and is struck from .900 Fine gold. Mintage is limited to 900 coins total. Coins have been released by the Italian Mint for €740.00.
